Top 10 “Massage Myths”

You’re not the only one wondering if they should get a massage! After reading these myths, we hope you can better understand the real reasons for receiving massage therapy.

1) “Luxury item”…..you’re watching too many old 80’s movies! People get massage for health reasons nowadays.
2) “I’ll feel weird being touched”…..you’ll never know til you try one! Have you ever been wrong in the past? No? Right…..lol
3) “Too expensive”….another outdated assumption! You’ll experience health benefits for days-months! Better ROI than a nice meal out.
4) “It will hurt”…..again, all massages are not the same. A Swedish massage features smooth, connecting strokes, for relaxation and circulation improvement.
5) “I will have to be naked”…..how you receive your massage is completely up to you! Wear all your clothes, some, or none, there are many styles to fit your individual needs.
6) “Better to just take a pill for the pain”…..maybe, but you’d be surprised how effective massage can be with easing/erasing headaches, back pain, arthritis and much more.
7) “I’ll just go to the Chiropractor”…..not a bad choice, but don’t discount what massage therapy can do in conjunction to other healing methods. Adjustments usually don’t hold long when tight muscles pull them back out.
8) “Female massage therapists are the norm”……yes they are great! But, do yourself a favor and “try a guy”, a male massage therapist can really work into your muscles to alleviate pain and soreness. Not saying one is better or stronger, but if you haven’t had the results you’re looking for, it may be you just haven’t found the right massage therapist for you!
9) “Massage is sexual”…..in professional massage, we go through years of training, continued education, consult with other health care professionals, work with terminally ill clients, help clients cope with grief, work with professional athletes and many other aspects of life. Real massage therapists take their profession very seriously and have no time to deal with people who don’t understand the healing nature of massage & bodywork. The human body sometimes responds in surprising ways, but that is natural and nothing to be embarrassed by!

and #10! I don’t have time to get a massage….most Massage Therapy providers are open during regular work hours and even after work hours, weekends….even Sunday! What more time do you need? Need more reasons? More information is available online, feel free to do your own research and see if you can come up with more great reasons to get a massage!

  3. I love the “I’ll just go to a chiropractor” comment. I think there is still a major misunderstanding about the differences between Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Treatment. Thanks for the great read!
